Martine Zajacek is an artist who lives and works on the Bass Coast in Victoria. In May 2026 her work received a Gold Award at the international Contemporary Collage Magazine Collage Awards.

Martine’s background as a Graphic Designer informs her curatorial and compositional eye, which she combines with a love of antique and vintage paper in all its forms. She has a passion for showcasing its inherent and often overlooked versatility - creating collaged artworks with incredible depth, complexity and beauty. She “paints” with pieces of paper and “draws” with stitching.

Themes Martine explores include reuse and renewal of vintage materials, a focus on colour, and a restraint of composition - releasing collections that are both connected in palette and visual theme, often working on up to a dozen pieces simultaneously.

Martine’s debut exhibition was at On Clarence in November 2023. Since that time she has been prolific exhibiting in Melbourne, Cowes, Mornington Peninsula, Loch, Foster, Geelong, Yass, Orange and Brisbane. In June 2024 she curated and exhibited in the duo exhibition Landscape: In, of & about.

She has been a finalist in several art prizes including the Corner Store Gallery’s Inside this Box Art Prize in 2025 and 2026; the Revival Art & Design Gallery’s Emerging Artist Art Prize in 2025; Aspire Gallery’s Petite Pieces Prize in 2024 and 2025; and Quadrant Gallery’s Feel Good Art Prize in 2024.

Martine has completed two Artist Residencies in 2024, including a month-long studio residency at On Clarence.

In May 2026 Martine’s collages were finalists in three categories of the international Contemporary Collage Magazine Collage Awards, where one work was awarded a Gold Award.

In July 2026 three of her collages were exhibited in Melbourne at Cut & Composed, a collage specific exhibition including artists from around the world.
